Geothermal Energy

What is Geothermal Energy?

Geothermal energy is something that this earth really needs to take advantage of in order to survive much longer than we would do otherwise. The reality is that the earth is burning up fossil fuels at a rate of no return, as we know that these will run out eventually. In order for the planet to be sustainable we need to use others sources of energy. A lot of people are asking the question; what is geothermal energy.

Well, geothermal energy is one of the natural energy resources that the earth has to offer. The heat that is generated from the inner core of the earth is what starts the geothermal process off in the first place. Water from rain drips deep into the earth surface and these create pools beneath the external layers. The great thing is, the steam that is produced by these pools can easily be collected by a geothermal energy plant. This plant can use the liquid/steam solution that has been produced and power the plant to produce further sources of energy.

Geothermal EnergyOne of the main disadvantages of geothermal energy and one of the geothermal energy facts that a lot of people know is that a plant relies on the ground below it. In order for plant to be successful in the long run, the ground below it needs to be a stable temperature. This is a great disadvantage as one day a plant could be built on the perfect ground, but within weeks, the energy below could stop and move energy where.

Another major disadvantage of geothermal energy is that learning how does geothermal energy works can be extremely difficult. This time consuming process converts into millions of pounds of research. This now means that building a plant that is based on producing this energy is certainly not cheap. Millions of pounds could be invested, only for the land to effectively “dry up” leaving the individuals with no choice but to abandon their investment and move onto another spot. This is one of the reasons a lot of people are now focusing on solar power instead.

Of course, everything relating to this type of energy is not a disadvantage. There are plenty of advantages of geothermal energy as well and one of the best ones that if the right parcel of land can be found, then energy can be reaped from the area for years to come. Some plants go on for decades, collecting energy that can be easily converted into electricity and used in commercial domestic premises throughout the world.

Geothermal energy facts are coming out on the news all of the time. Latest figures suggest that there is a huge decrease in the consumption of energy that has derived from these types of plants. Nowadays people are either going with their standard utility provider, but more and more people are focusing on producing their own energy by using things like solar panels and even wind turbines to create free energy in the long term.
